With effect from November 2015 the CPDLC service is planned to be introduced within the Budapest FIR. CPDLC equipped aircraft will then be able to log-on for ATN via VHF data link Mode 2 (VDL M2). Provision of CPDLC service in the Budapest FIR is based on the requirements of the Commission Regulation (EC) No. 29/2009.

CPDLC service will be available for aircraft operating in the Budapest FIR above FL285.

The CPDLC application provides means of communication between the air traffic controller and the pilot, using a predefined data link message set. This application includes a set of clearance/information/request message elements which correspond to the phraseologies used in the radiotelephony environment.

The following CPDLC services will be provided in the Budapest FIR:

• Data link initiation capability (DLIC)
• ATC clearances and instructions (ACL)
• ATC communications management (ACM)
• ATC microphone check (AMC)
